Mitsuru Kirijo is a main character in Persona 3 and the unofficial leader of SEES (Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad). As the only child of Takeharu Kirijo, head of the Kirijo Group, she serves as a top-ranking valedictorian and student council president. Shigenori Soejima designed her to appear tough on the exterior while hiding a weak interior. In battle, she wields one-handed swords like rapiers and sabers and commands Ice-based magic. Her Personas are Penthesilea and Artemisia, both of The Empress Arcana. She is voiced by Rie Tanaka in Japanese and Tara Platt in English.

Lore & Background
Mitsuru has been battling Shadows since childhood as the unofficial leader of SEES. Her Persona was artificially induced, making her the only SEES member forced to summon one. Initially acting as a support character offering analysis and advice, she avoids combat until Fuuka Yamagishi joins with stronger analytical powers. Mitsuru hides details about Tartarus and the Dark Hour due to guilt over her family's involvement in creating them; believing her grandfather was responsible, she feels solely burdened to set the world right. After Ikutsuki kills her father, she loses all will to fight, viewing restoring family honor as meaningless without a family. Yukari intervenes to help her regain resolve. Following graduation and the conflict with Nyx, she takes over leadership of the Kirijo Group.
In Their Own Story
In Persona 4 Arena, set two years after 'The Answer', Mitsuru appears as a 20-year-old university student leading the Shadow Operatives. She joins Aigis and Akihiko to search for Labrys, an Anti-Shadow weapon that disappeared from her plane. Her Persona in this outing is Artemisia. The narrative highlights her transition from a high school leader hiding secrets to a young adult managing a specialized group of Persona users fighting Shadows.
