Kamoshida Palace Raid
The first strike of the Phantom Thieves against a tyrant's corrupt heart.
The Kamoshida Palace Raid marks the first major mission for the Phantom Thieves of Hearts in Persona 5. Set against the backdrop of Shujin Academy, this event centers on exposing gym teacher Suguru Kamoshida's abuse through the Metaverse. It is the moment Joker, Ryuji Sakamoto, and Ann Takamaki unite to change a distorted heart using Personas. The raid establishes their core method: entering a physical manifestation of subconscious desires created by those with great power and twisted perceptions, defeating the ruler, and forcing a public confession.

- Joker, Ryuji Sakamoto, Ann Takamaki
Lore & Background
The Palace is a distorted castle born from Kamoshida's ego and his view of students as property. It serves as the testing ground for the group's new abilities, where they learn to navigate shadows and solve environmental puzzles. The raid highlights the theme of the seven deadly sins, with Kamoshida representing lust and pride. While he is seen as a hero by many outside due to his Olympic past, the Metaverse reveals him as an abuser who broke Ryuji Sakamoto's leg during a practice session. The dungeon mechanics reflect this tyranny, featuring armored minions that mimic school staff and traps designed to crush intruders.
In Their Own Story
After Ann Takamaki learns her friend Shiho Suzui attempted suicide due to Kamoshida's harassment, she joins Joker and Ryuji in the Metaverse. They free Morgana from his cell within Kamoshida's Palace; this bicolor cat-like creature becomes their guide and second-in-command. The trio navigates the castle, fighting shadow minions and avoiding security patrols. Ann, codenamed Panther, uses her whips and submachine guns alongside Ryuji, known as Skull, who wields clubs and shotguns. Joker leads them using his Wild Card ability to fuse Personas, originally Arsène of the Fool Arcana. The climax occurs when they confront the Shadow Kamoshida in the throne room, defeating him to steal his treasure. This act forces Kamoshida to publicly confess his crimes, ending his reign over Shujin Academy.
Reader's Guide
To initiate the raid, the group must access the Metaverse via a mobile app on their smartphones once they have identified a Palace created by someone with distorted desires. Inside, players control Joker, Ryuji, and Ann to explore the castle, utilizing Morgana's transformation into a minivan for quick travel across sections. Combat relies on exploiting enemy weaknesses; Ryuji can instantly defeat lower-level Shadows as his Chariot Confidant progresses, while Ann helps negotiate with shadows. The group must avoid detection by guards and solve puzzles to reach the treasure. Morgana provides critical intel on Palace mechanics throughout the journey. Upon defeating the ruler, the team secures a change of heart, forcing the target's confession in the real world.
Did You Know?
- Morgana was created by Igor's master, Philemon, or is a being from the collective unconscious—not by Igor himself.
- Ryuji's leg injury occurred because Kamoshida broke it during a practice, not because Ryuji tried to punch him.
- The Palace is modeled as a castle representing the target's distorted perception of the world.
- Joker holds the 'Wild Card' ability, allowing him to fuse and hold multiple Personas like Arsène and Satanael.
